Cuban Students with Disabilities in National Sports Competitions
The first medals were awarded Wednesday at the Pedro Marrero Stadium in the capital, reported Granma newspaper. Gicel Rodriguez, a student from Havana, won two gold medals in the 50 and 100-meter dash, while Daniuska Reyes also won to at the same distances in wheelchairs.
Swimming competitions also began at the Fontanar swimming pool complex as well as ping pong at the Solidarity with Panama School in the capital.
One hundred and sixty athletes from all of the Cuban provinces are taking part in the Games, the first time the event is being held on a nationwide scale.
The competitions of children and teens with physical limitations are considered an important ingredient in their integral education.
