The Cubans travelled from the United Arab Emirates after winning the Abu Dhabi tournament with six straight victories.
The Swiss press already has Cuba and the Chinese team as among the favorites in the tough competition being held for the 20th time.
Before leaving Cuba for the United Arab Emirates, Coach Antonio Perdomo said he would take a squad including 10 of the possible players for the Beijing Olympics, to which the Cubans are already qualified.
Perdomo said the Volley Masters is of great importance in the team’s preparation for Beijing.
Also in Switzerland is the Italian squad, the European champs and 2007 World Cup title holders. Their coach Massimo Barbolini, said his team would play in Montreux with the same winning team as last year.
The squad includes Nadia Centoni, Valentina Fiorin, Paola Croce, Valentina Arrighetti, Lucía Crisanti, Manuela Secolo, Paola Cardullo, Serena Ortolani, Eleonora Lo Bianco, Sandra Vitez, Lucía Bosetti, Simona Gioli and Giulia Pincerato.
The other participants at the Volley Masters are China, Netherlands (Grand Prix 2007 winners), Germany, and Serbia.
Russia, Japan, Poland, United States and Brazil declined participation because they “prefer to train at home until leaving for the Olympic Games instead of playing some of their possible Beijing rivals.”
