Presa said the energy revolution program applied in the country saved an equivalent of almost one million tons of oil in the period 2006-2007.
This project, he added, is conceived in five guidelines: saving and efficient use of energy, increase service availability, use of renewable energy, foreign collaboration and the increase of exploration for oil and gas.
According to the MINBAS official, transformations in the National Power Grid will allow Cuba to have by the end of 2009 or beginning of 2010, a generating capacity of over 3,000 megawatts.
Presa indicated that total will be reached by the setting up of 218 outlets of diesel and fuel oil, and the use of over 1,600 motors.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the substitution of almost 4 million high-consuming household appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners, fans, TVs and water pumps for other more efficient and subject to installment payment plans.
He also said about 9.4 million incandescent bulbs were changed for saving ones and the population received in that period about 20 million rice cookers, electric stoves, water heaters and kitchenware.
Presa commented that the use of electric generators allowed to protect economic and social public sites like hospitals, schools, food elaboration plants, pumping, drinking water plants and hotels from bad weather conditions.
