From July Japanese Cinema in Havana
Films that approach drama and melodrama, terror genre, as well as the classical samurai films, make up the Japanese program that covers diverse styles, trends and poetics within the film world of that nation, cradle of one of the most important seventh art industries worldwide.

On July 8, the program will open with Kids Return (1996), with script and direction of Takeshi Gitano. This film moves itself through boxing and crime world, from the protagonism of youths and teenagers from secondary teaching and the presence of the mafia world, in a climate of violence that lasts 107 minutes.

On Wednesday 9, it screens  “Primer Amor” (1999), intimist drama by Tetsuo Shinohara. Joe Hisaishi’s sountrack stands out in this film.  

In the meantime, Thursday 10 will see the screening of “La cara” (2000), by filmmaker Junji Sakamoto. It’s a drama starred in by a woman, sank into the murder of her own sister who clashes with the police, as she strives to live her share of freedom in the most intense way.

Filmmaker Sakamoto (who made himself known abroad with violent film Iron Fist) uses in his films elements from black humor and has the excellent performance of Naomi Fujiyama, labelled by critics as the great diva of Japanese theater, who’s making her cinematographic debut here.
