Over the last couple of years, Cuba has slid a bit in what used to be its flagship event, boxing, which gave the island five golds and an 11th finish in Athens 2004. Nevertheless, ten of the eleven possible boxers qualified for Beijing without competing in the World Cup in Chicago. But the pendulum has now swung to track and field as the top medal earner for Cuba.

Now is the time to encourage are young athletes. Hurdler Dayron Robles who has become the favorite for the 110 metre hurdles to be held on August 21 where he will come up against Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang.

Now is the time for our athletes to turn strategy and tactics into minds and hearts. Now is the time for glory, throughout history, Cuba has had many heroes and heroines of this kind, with or without Olympic experience.
