The cuban pianists Ulises Hernandez between human and divine
This material, that won the Great Award of Cubadisco 2008, is made out of three DVD and was produced by the Colibrí seal. It contains nine hours of music accompanied by an impressive visualization of emblematic spaces and places of the Cuban capital, both in its oldest architecture as in the contemporary one. It also has an extra video with the moments of the unveiling of the bust of Austrian musician at the Carmen Montilla Gallery in Havana’s Historic Centre and where the Historian of Havana City, Eusebio Leal Spengler, said some words.

The artists who took part in the Project, among them Ulises Hernandez, the main force in this tribute to Mozart and executives of the Colibri seal, among many other personalities, took part in the promotion and launching of the production.
The first words were said by Roberto Chorens, who emphasized in the love with which this idea was made, to bring out our city, “the capital of a country that is ours and that we deer love it. When you have this DVD in your hand, you understand a bit better why we love Havana and Cuba so much”.

Chorens affirmed also that for the pianists who took part in the Project it is a milestone to have taken part in a product that will add value with time: “This album, in the way it was born tends to become something tangible in the Cuban musical patrimony, because of the relationship between Havana, Mozart and the Cuban musicians”.

Another value “Mozart en La Habana” undoubtedly has, is the idea of combining, of crossing its lines experienced maestros, such as Hernández, María Victoria Collado and Roberto Urbay among many others, with exponents of the younger generation of the Cuban pianist, such as Leonardo Gell and Yanet Bermúdez, just to mention a few of them. “This is what allows us to assure – asserted Maria Elena Mendiola in her words – that there are still today musicians who graduate and choose the concert music as the expression way, and dedicate all their talent and dedication to it”.

Two good news closed the day: the donation of this production by the Colibri seal to every art school of every level in Cuba, as well as other ones, with, for example, two Cd´s, one of Camerata Romeu– titled “Raigal” and a monographic dedicated to the work of Roberto Varela – and “El cantar del caballero y su destino”, the tribute to Che by Jose Maria Vitier.

The other good news was the special presentation concert “Mozart en La Habana” last 16th of July at the Basílica Menor del Convento de San Francisco de Asís, where took part most of the pianists who took part in the DVD. They offered a version of the compositions of the brilliant Austrian musician.

As some time ago Eusebio Leal Spengler said – whose words are the opening of these Cd´s – “the genius from Salzburg was able to create a bridge between the human and the divine”. And to materialize even more this “bridge” they have give us “Mozart en La Habana”, a real piece of art that is already part of the Cuban musical patrimony.
