The friends of the Cuban island will participate in the Moncada anniversary commemoration
Participating in the commemoration of July 26 —the historic date in 1953 when Fidel and Raul Castro initiated armed struggle against the US-backed dictatorship— delegations from around the world are paying homage to the heroes and martyrs of that epic assault.

Rosa María López Almaguer, a delegate from the Cuban Institute of Friendship (ICAP) in the eastern Cuban province of Santiago de Cuba, said that a hundred groups in solidarity with Cuba will participate in an act on Saturday marking the 55th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks. The ceremony will take place on the grounds of the one time epicenter of tyrannical military strength.

Among the guests are the Juan Rius Rivera Brigade from Puerto Rican, members of friendship-with-Cuba associations from Austria, Japan, Salonica and Greece, in addition to the members of the Casa de las América of New York, formed of Cuban residents in that American state.

López Almaguer pointed out that the visiting groups have a great deal of experience in the popularization of the work of the Cuban Revolution in their respective countries, and many of their members are involved in committees working to free the Cuban Five.

The friends of the island will participate in the Moncada anniversary commemoration, visit historical places linked with the action, and will have chances to meet with area residents in several communities of the city.
