The mountain geography and cliffs are part of the complex of ruins of French coffee plantations of the 19th century, declared Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO and the Cauto river, the largest in Cuba.
According to Hayes, her impression of the scenery and human quality of the hamlets in the mountain range was so great that she could not help but reproduce them with her lens.
The artist was invited by the Solidarity Committee of the Trois-Rivieres city in Quebec to do her work in difficult regions of the island, together with a group of Canadian youths of the Guerrilla de Teatreros.
The photographs capture the exuberance of the mountain ranges, the smiling faces of the campesinos and unprecedented moments of a showing by the Canadian actors directed by Rene Reyes.
The Guerrilla de Teatreros received the We are the Heritage award, granted by Convenio Andres Bello cultural center, which is formed by several countries, including Cuba.
