“The event will boost the international campaign for the release of the
five Cuban innocent prisoners held in US jails for fighting terrorism,”
he said.
“The Continental Encounter in Solidarity with Cuba will also serve as an
international tribune to demand the lifting of the over 45-year-old US
economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba,” stressed the
president of the Panamanian Parliament.
Pedro Miguel Gonzalez said that the city of Santiago de Veraguas,
hometown of former Panamanian President Omar Torrijos, will be the venue of the meeting, which will be attended by representatives of solidarity-with-Cuba movements.
Gonzalez said that following the passing away of Carlos Alvarado, who
headed the Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group, Panamanian authorities organized the new board of the organization, currently headed by deputy Abraham Martinez.
The meeting held on Monday between both parliament presidents was also attended by Cuban ambassador to Panama Carlos Garcia Trapaga and by Luis A. Gomez, representative of Panama’s Foreign Ministry in Cuba.
