According to experts, the most common causes of death are hypoxia and other perinatal problems related to childbirth.
Local health authorities expect to reduce the infant mortality rate this year, which was 4.2 deaths per every 1,000 live births in 2007, the lowest in the province history.
Therefore, they are working to increase maternal homes and to reduce the number of children with low weight at birth.
