Patricia Carrillo, the organizer of the cycle, pointed out that the work of the Cuban writer inspired so many fiction pieces, based in his novels, as well as many documentaries that try to demonstrate the different obsessions Carpentier had, which were so diverse and rich as his work itself. Cuban popular music, surrealism, his novels and his birth city, Havana, are the themes with which the different documentaries deal, dated in 1973 and directed by Héctor Veitía, in which Carpentier was interviewed.
While El Siglo de las Luces , El Recurso del Método, Concierto Barroco and Derecho de Asilo are the novels that inspired some of the movies that will be exhibited in Saltillo .
Apart from the movies there will also be present some of the moviemakers. Luciano Castillo, movie critic and director of Carpentier en el Reino de la Imagen will give a speech as part of the activities of the Alejo Carpentier Cathedra, on September 19.Also, Héctor Veitía, director of the Academic Extension from the International Movie and Television School from San Antonio de los Baños, in Cuba, will do the same on the following day, September 20.
Followers of Carpentier and lovers of the so called Latin American boom will have the opportunity to get closer, through the magic of cinema to one of the most famous personalities of Spanish-speaking literature.
