In a verbal note sent Sunday to the US State Department, the Cuban Interest Section in Washington asked for an authorization to buy supplies American companies place on the export market, as well as credits that are normal in all commercial operations.

If the US government does not wish to do it on a permanent basis, Cuba suggests that it authorize this for the next six months, particularly taking into account the damage caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

The note, which was sent in response to a previous text from the US government, also warned that the most dangerous months of the hurricane season are yet to come.

The Cuban Interest Section of the Embassy of Switzerland also avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the US State Department the assurances of its highest consideration, the text concludes.
