The Cuban team will compete in the World Olympiad of Dresden, with the objective of getting a victory in front of stronger opponents, which will be difficult, but not impossible.
Leinier Dominguez, leader in the national ranking with 2, 719 points and the 21 world place, leads the Caribbean team, seconded by Lazaro Bruzon (2, 622), Yuniesky Quesada and Holden Hernandez (2, 580) and the veteran Jesus Nogueiras (2, 574).
The Cubans achieved their best performance in the chess olympiads of 2004 in the Spanish town of Calvia, where they occupied the seventh position.
