An analysis panel on the history and present date factors of literature in Cuba will give a singular touch to the book festival in the higher study center. It will be held by the National Literature Awards Miguel Barnet, President of the Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (Union of Writers and Artists from Cuba) (UNEAC in Cuba) and Reinaldo González, director of La Siempreviva magazine.

Book selling and exchanges and the presentation of important titles in Cuban literary history such as Cecilia Valdés, by Cirilo Villaverde, will be inserted into this student day which is part of the activity program to commemorate the 400 years of the appearance of Espejo de paciencia (Mirror of Patience), by Silvestre de Balboa, the first Cuban work.

The National Culture Day opened many proposals, among them the unveiling of a commemorative stone in the historical center of the city of Havana to remember the four centuries of Cuban literature and the issue of a commemorative postal series.

The International colloquium Cuatro siglos de literatura cubana (Four centuries of Cuban Literature) has been announced by the Instituto de Literatura y Lingüística (Literature and Language Institute) and the Instituto Cubano del Libro (Cuban Book Institute). It will take place from November 3 to 7, and it will bring together in the capital around 150 researchers, writers and specialists from twenty countries.

It will be dedicated to the analysis of the most important historical-literary-processes in Cuban tradition and it will include presentations that will deepen into the movements, stages, genres and comparative visions, and around personalities and specific works in Cuban literature.
