Twenty Chilean artists are performing at the National Stadium in the tribute called "A hundred years, a thousand dreams", one of the biggest shows to honor legendary Chilean ex-President.
Salvador Allende Gossens (1908-1973) became the first Marxist President of the world to be actually elected by its people.
Allende"s administration, supported by Unidad Popular (group of leftwing parties), tried to establish an alternative towards a socialist society, taking steps as copper mining nationalization and creating a solidarity state with citizen participation.
The United States, Europe and Latin America"s right-wing parties conspired to end Allende"s peaceful administration and plotted the September 11, 1973 coup d"etat, led by Chilean Gen. Augusto Pinochet.
