In July he receives the Silver Medal in the International Ballet Competition in Varna, the most prestigious and old event in the world, which was chaired over by the prestigious Russian dancer Vladimir Vasiliev.
The quality of Gouneo and of his couple, Dariela González, caused such a shock that both received invitations to compete in Beijing.
They danced the Cuban versions of the pas de deux of "La bayadera" and "El corsario", of the original of Marius Petipa and the modern "Cero", of Miguel Altunaga.
With this same repertoire Osiel assured the Grand Prix of the Tenth International Competition of Ballet Academies, held in Havana in March 2008, while Dariela won the Silver medal.
His presentations received also the recognition of the jury and the public in the different events.
The student of the same school Yonarh Junior Acosta, won the Gold medal in Beijing in the 2007 edition.
On the other hand, this summer several students won recognitions in competitions and festivals in Europe, while the Vignale Danza competition in Italy, gave an award to the teacher Mirtha Hermida for her pedagogical work.
The recent successes of the Cuban National Ballet School, the only one of its kind in Latin America, are an incentive to increase its participation in international events that favour the exchange of knowledge and the increase of its prestige, indicated experts.
