On Thursday, Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alejandro González Galiano toured the facilities that will be used during the event. He was accompanied by the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province of Santiago de Cuba, Misael Enamorado, and Provincial Assembly President Rolando Yero.
Preparations are concluding at the Antonio Maceo International Airport, where the 14 heads of state or government of the CARICOM nations and the secretary generals from the three regional organizations will be received.
González Galiano revealed some of the details of the first official activity of the gathering during a tour of the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, where leaders will pay tribute to Cuban national hero Jose Marti on Sunday and take the presidential photo.
At Santiago de Cuba’s Revolution Square, summit participants will pay their respects to Lieutenant General Antonio Maceo on the 112th anniversary of his death in combat. González Galiano also inspected the press center and the Meliá-Santiago Hotel, where the official summit talks will be held and where the guests will stay.
The Third Cuba-CARICOM Summit will focus on the international financial crisis and its effect in the region, and other topics of joint interest.
