Lisandra Guerra Opens Track Cycling Cup for Cuba

Cuba's world 500M cyclist champion, LisandraGuerra, will represent Cuba
on the third phase of the Track Cycling World Cup from
Thursday through Saturday in Cali, Colombia.
Guerra will compete
in the sprint, whose final is scheduled for tonight, along with the
scratch for women, Olympic sprint, men's points race and the pursuit
race for both sexes.
In addition to Guerra, Cuba will be
represented by 2007 scratch world champion Yumari Gonzalez, world
youth leader Iraida Garcia, Yudelmis Dominguez and Dalila Rodriguez,
and sprinter Alejandro Mainat, who will be participating in a world
event for the first time this year.
Lisandra has been training
on the Alcides Nieto cycle track for several days, along with Mainat,
after spending a few days at the World Cycling Center located in Aigle,
Switzerland, while the other four competitorsarrived in Cali Wednesday
evening.
This is the first race for the Cuban cyclists after the
Beijing Olympics, where Yoanka Gonzalez won the silver medal in the
women's points race, while Guerra finished 10th in the sprint.
About
160 competitors from more than 40 nations will be participating in the
event and will be looking to win points for the world championship to
be held in Pruskow, Polond, from March 25 to 29.
