The Shaanxi Acrobatic Group thrilled the audience with the Lotus and the Butterfly, and other acts, followed by Cuban pianist Frank Fernandez who had people on their feet with his Zapateo por derecho. Jiao Jiandong and Chi Lei performed a shadow show demonstrating the dexterity of sublime beauty.
Cuban minister of culture Abel Prieto attended the gala along with Mercedes Lopez Acea, member of the Central Committee Secretariat; Zhao Rongxian, the Chinese ambassador to Cuba; Ernest Lopez, president of the ICRT; Miguel Barnet, president of the Cuban Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC); and Tubal Paez, president of the Cuban Journalists Association (UPEC).
The impeccable and fluid gala also included tenor Luis Weiwei and soprano Barbara Llanes, Sory, and the Cuban Wushu Academy. Another colorful side to the evening came when Mireya Luis and the Morenas del Caribe joined the Cuban TV Choir to sing Que Linda es Cuba by Saborit. Miosotis Parapra and Ji Xiaojun were the hosts.
