The event entitled Cuba: 50 Years in Revolution was sponsored by the Latin American Studies Institute of China's Social Sciences Academy and the Cuban embassy in Beijing.
The colloquium was attended by academics, former Chinese ambassadors in Cuba, representatives of the Chinese Communist Party's International Department, and experts in Cuban affairs.
In his opening speech, Li Shenming, vice president of China's Social Sciences Academy, said that in these 50 years the Cuban people has been able to overcome all sorts of difficulties to bring forward the cause of socialism.
Cuban ambassador Carlos Miguel Pereira sustained the two nations have common principles, and agree on several issues, committed to the rejection of hegemony and the defense of the people's sovereignty and self-determination.
China has become a key, stable, and safe pillar for Cuba, not only in the political and diplomatic levels, but also in the economic, commercial, and financial ones, the diplomat indicated.
