The achievement is the result of coordinated work between the health system and social institutions, which has translated in zero maternal deaths and no deaths of school-age children.
The municipality has 14 community maternal homes where pregnant women with health risks are admitted and treated until they give birth.
Generally, those institutions are family houses where 5-7 pregnant women are taken care of and where they receive food and medical assistance.
Health authorities also provide counseling on the importance of absolute breastfeeding, at least during the first four months of the baby's life.
