Foreign Trade Ministry official in Santiago Oscar Nash said the top contributors with growing productivity are the Sugar Ministry, Procesadora de Soya, Cuba Ron S.A branch, Tabaco Torcido (cigar) and Citric Fruit Industry.
Santiago currently hosts 16 entities that major in export items, plus 30 companies working on import replacement whose productivity grew 21 per cent in 2008.
Nash said there is still great need to advance diversification by adding new products able to boost exports and improve productivity, which he called key quality feature.
He added that rather than honoring contracts, the goal is to provide quality, both in domestic market supplies and exportable items, to benefit the country and its people.
