Top Latin American Cyclists to Attend Vuelta a Cuba
Venezuelan Manuel Medina and Colombian Gregorio Ladino, both in Mexico's Tecos team, will guarantee the foreign quality to the 34th Vuelta a Cuba (Tour of Cuba), to start tomorrow Tuesday from this town.

Medina, 2008 America Tour top ranking cyclist and winner of the Tour of Guatemala, comes for the first time to the Cuban tour and is expected to take the opportunity to score points for this year's continental ranking, where he trails leader Ladino.

In statements to ACN news agency Medina said he hopes not to disappoint his team mates that encouraged him to come and the Cuban fans, anxious to witness great performances in the tour.

The Venezuelan cyclist, sixth in the Vuelta al Tachira and mountain champion in that tour, said some of his team mates could also win the event; he mentioned José Alarcón and Franklin Chacón, the latter third in the last Cuban tour.

In the battle for the mountain trophy will also be Ladino, who won this event in the last Vuelta a Cuba edition, and who currently leads the continent in the speciality.

It is against these rivals that local cyclist will try to keep the trophy home, as has been the case in six of the latest nine editions of the tour.

The Vuelta a Cuba tours were re-launched in 2000; its 45 years anniversary will be marked this year.

Observers see Raúl Granjel, Arnold Alcolea and Yasmani Martínez as being the Cubans with the better chances of making it to the final. The race will end up at Havana's Capitol building, on February 22nd.
