Also in quarter-finals Cubans Daniel Matellon (48 kilograms), lightwelter Rosniel Iglesias, welter Carlos Banteur and middleweight Osnmay Acosta won their respective bouts, while Jose Larduet and super heavyweight Robert Alsfonso lost.
Matellon defeated British Darran Langley 11-2; Iglesias, bronze medallist in Beijing did the same to Latvian Kestutis Antanavicius 18-1 and Banteur 5-3 to French Jaoid Chiguer.
Another Olympic bronze medallist, Acosta, beat Iranian Ali Mazaheri 8- 1to complete the list of fighters from the Caribbean country to the next round.
Meanwhile, junior world champion Larduet could not defeat Russian Olympic runner-up Artur Beterbiev, who won the bout 15-8, while Alonso suffered the same fate after tying his combat against Iranian Jasim Delavari, but coincident punches favored the Asian fighter.
This Friday Matellon will face French Jeremy Beccu, Torriente will be against Mongolian Zorigtbaatar Enkhzorig, Iglesias and Banteur against Iranians Human Karami and Morteza Sepahvandi, respectively. The last Cuban to enter the ring will be Acosta, against world’s number three French John M'Bumba.
