For the first time in the Caribbean island, pre-university students coming from Latin American countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and even from other countries such as Spain, will be received. Cuba has obtained 11 gold, 14 silver and 7 bronze medals in this kind of competition, as stated by the website of Cubavision Internacional.

The 13th edition was held in Costa Rica, and Cuban representatives got a gold, a silver and two bronze medals.

From 2000 to 2008, Cuba reached 242 medals in several Science Olympiads, including mentions and medals.

Of the 242, 44 were gold medals, besides Cuba was the host of similar events in the fields of Mathematics and Physics.
