"Several venues and editions were adjusted, but we have seven million copies at the fair, which is a significant number that shows the commitment of the country and its government institutions," Sanchez told Prensa Latina.
"It is also a reaction from readers and a population boasting more knowledge, selectivity and rigour every year," he stressed.
The program of the 18th Fair in this city of Matanzas, 62 miles from Havana, includes book presentations, development of literary spaces, lectures, colloquiums and theatre performances for children.
The commercial area operates in the historical center of this town, funded on October 12 1693 by 30 families from the Canary Islands.
