SOMEC’s director Pedro Hernández explained that the company’s plan is to repair an average of 16 trucks a month to meet the agreement signed with the Autokraz Company of repairing 430 dump trucks in 3 years.
The trucks, with severe deterioration after more than 30 years of use, are being repaired at the Cuban factory, from where they come out almost new. Making the parts in Cuba provides considerable savings, eliminating the need to import new trucks to revitalize an extremely damaged fleet due to overuse.
In addition to the comprehensive repair of these vehicles known as KP-3, a new assembly line is being created for 300 to 500 new models of this line, mainly dump and concrete-transportation trucks, through a commercial agreement with the Spanish firm SERVIPLENT.
Most of the equipment imported to this end is already in Cuba and the workers who will lead the investment are being trained in the new technology. This project will help to carry out important programs of the Ministry of Construction.
