Dominguez, with the highest Latin American ELO (2717), played with black pieces, and after 65 moves of a Sicilian Opening, Alapian variant, accepted the draw offered by Radjabov. According to experts at the tournament, Dominguez had several winning chances during the match, but could not find his way to victory.
Now, the Cuban player needs to secure at least a victory and a draw in his two remaining games, against Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk and Chinese Yue Wang, to be able to ascend in the standings of this Super Slam tournament.
Russian GM Alexander Grischuk leads the event with 7 points, followed by Norwegian Magnus Carlsen and Ivanchuk half a point behind. In the 4th- 5th position are World Champion Indian Viswanathan Anand and Levon Aronian with 6 points, and with 5.5 points are Radjabov and Wang.
