The meeting will remember the 52nd Anniversary of the attack on the Presidential Palace headed by FEU leader José Antonio Echevarría in an attempt to overthrow the military dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. Students will also pay tribute to Echevarría who was killed trying to escape after the attack.
The plenary session will feature an address by Minister of Higher Education Juan Vela on 50 years of the Cuban higher education system under the Revolutionary government. Later, participants will be in session to analyze the work of this ministry and the policies of the Ministries of Higher Education, Education, Public Health and the Cuban Institute for Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER).
“On the last day, we will be celebrating the 131st anniversary of the Baragua Protest [led by General Antonio Maceo against Spanish colonialism] and, in honor of this heroic combatant, university students will take measures to foster education and work,” said Hernández.
The FEU president spoke about the importance this organization places on promoting Cuban history and ideology, and the revolutionary process, and on spreading Marxist-Leninist ideology, and Marti´s and Fidel´s teachings.
Another challenge faced by the organization is to create competent professionals with a higher cultural and scientific level and engaged with the revolution, concluded Adalberto Hernández.
