The program of the trova festival, held every March in the Cuban city of Santiago de Cuba -some 864 kilometers east of Havana- will include artistic presentations, as well as a theoretical event on the famous Cuban music genre, hosted by the Association of Cuban Artists and Writers (UNEAC).

The annual event celebrates Cuba ´s trova movement, from the early Cuban traditional trova artists, among who was José (Pepe) Sánchez, to their continuators --the exponents of what is known today as the Cuban ‘new trova´ movement.

Eduardo Sosa is the president of the organizing committee. The event is sponsored by Cuba ´s Music institute, the Miguel Matamoros Provincial Music Center and the Culture Ministry´s provincial office in Santiago de Cuba .

This year´s event will pay homage to late trova artists Barbarito Diez, Rafael Inciarte Brioso and Manuel Gallo Atencio (Manolo Gallo), on their 100 th birthday anniversaries in 2009.

The event will also celebrate ‘Trova Day´ –observed on March 19 th - marking the birthday anniversary of Pepe Sánchez.
