Dr. Rene Leyva Medina, administrator of the hospital, explained that the remodelling project began last year as part of the Battle of Ideas program and the project for maintenance to medical institutions undertaken by the Ministry of Public Health in the province.

The work being carried out as part of the program of the Battle of Ideas includes the installation of new systems for steam generation and conduction, and medical gases, the construction of the center for the Haemo-dialysis Service, the Territorial Center for High Technology Assisted Reproduction (IVF) and a new sterilization unit, among others.

With the funding from the Ministry of Public Health, the brigades are also working on the construction of a new chemotherapy suite, a central delivery unit with four rooms, three operating theatres and other services, as well as other work to improve the living conditions of patients admitted there from Holguín, Granma and Las Tunas.
