There are 11 nominees for restoration that include the Iglesia de San Pedro Apostol in the western province of Matanzas and the Santo Cristo del Buen Viaje in the eastern province of Camaguey, a city that was recently declared a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site.
Nine others such as Cespedes Park, symbol of eastern Santiago de Cuba and the Bejucal railroad station, south of the capital, aspire for the award of conservation.
In this category the award is granted to the institution responsible for the administration of the building or the owner, if it is privately owned and, in restoration, to the main designer, executor and investor, he explained.
The jury is composed of the National Commission of Monuments, the Architecture Faculty and Fine Arts section of the Union of Writers and Artists, as well as others.
Created in 2003 the award will be given on April 17 in homage to the International Day of Heritages and Localities.
