Important issues on the international agenda will be debated in the upcoming ministerial meeting of NAM, particularly the role of its 18 members in the search for solutions to the world economic and financial crisis, which mainly affects developing nations.
The meeting will also contribute to strengthening the unity and solidarity of the group - the largest international organization after the United Nations- and will be a favorable framework to plan new actions aimed at promoting the interests of the peoples of the South at the various organizations and multilateral forums.
It will also renew its stances and the commitment of its members to the defense of multilateralism in international relations, along with the respect of International Law and the UN Charter.
Cuba, which has chaired NAM since September 2006, will work with the rest of member nations to continue consolidating the process of revitalization and strengthening of the Movement, founded in September 1961 during its First Summit held in Belgrade, the capital of Yugoslavia at that time.
