The nominees to the important award were announced in a ceremony that took place last Wednesday at Riviera Hotel. The jury presented 144 nominations in 39 categories.
Most of the admitted CDs belong to EGREM, Bis Music and Colibrí Productions record houses.
Popular dance music has become one of the most complicated categories to select the winner; seven outstanding orchestras are competing for the award: Adalberto Álvarez y su Son, Pupy y los que Son Son, Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco, Yumurí y sus Hermanos, Gardi, Orlando Valle (Maracas) and Giraldo Piloto y Klímax. Song is also hard-fought category with the CDs Gracias , by Omara Portuondo; Aguas revisitadas, by Amaury Pérez; Sé feliz..., Fernando Álvarez and Descemer Bueno; Dos trovadores, Frank Fernández and Danny Rivera; Cantos de mujer (Volumen II), by Sara González, and Un bolero para el Benny, by Termidor Orchestra and Luis Frank Arias, among other important nominations.
