Cuba aims to use biological fertilizers on a large scale in agriculture
The massive use of these organic fertilizers responds favorably to the economy, explained Nicolas Medina, expert of the National Center of Agricultural Sciences (INCA) during an event on the subject.

He explained this benefits with the substitution of imported chemical bio-fertilizers at the cost of millions of dollars.

Medina, also coordinator of the 24th Latin American Meeting on Rhizome Biology said that these fertilizers increase the quality and yields of crops.

They are natural products that increase the availability of nutrients in the soil and stimulate vegetable growth that promotes a more organic and sustainable agriculture.

Cuba gives priority to the development of this kind of agriculture in which live micro organisms play an important role in a process that is also economical and beneficial for the environment.

The country develops bio-fertilizers like AZOFERT, based on nitrogen rhizome bacteria that stimulates vegetable growth and ECOMIC highly efficient solid fungicide for crops.

According to Medina, the large scale use of these biological preparations, alone or in combination with other nutritional alternatives already shows signs of having a favorable over all economic, technological and

environmental impact.

Cuban authorities have given priority to this line of research to obtain and characterize new species and strains of native microorganisms with greater potential for their use as bio-fertilizers.
