Cuba has celebrating Mothers Day on the second Sunday of May, starting in 1920, according to a chronicle written by reporter Victor Munoz, published in Cuban newspaper El Mundo, according to historical documents.

The first celebration was in a theatre in Santiago de las Vegas, Havana, where a group of intellectuals recited the verses of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti to his mother and a poem called To My Mother, written by poet Diego Vicente Tejera.
