The director of the institution, Ana Sanchez, during the opening ceremony said the encounter is a good opportunity for the exchange with experts on Jose Marti's thinking, currently applicable within the political, social and cultural life of the country.
The colloquium, in its first day of sessions, was dedicated to "La Edad de Oro", a book that used to be a monthly journal, geared towards children and youth, where Marti published stories, essays and poems, like the poem, "Los zapaticos de rosa".
Other issues debated were journalism as culture, with a presentations entitled "America for Latin Americans", by Randy Saborit.
The fourth Jose Marti and Hispanic Letters Colloquium also marks the 170th anniversary of the death of Cuban Poet, Jose Maria Heredia.
It has been held since 2005 as part of the celebrations to commemorate the 114th anniversary of the death in combat of Marti on May 19.
