Fourteen edition of the Festival of Cuban Cinema was opened in Frankfurt

The Cinema Festival is organized by the Cuba Group of the Third World House of Frankfurt and is sponsored by several German and Cuban institutions.
The festival will present, until the 24 of May, a wide program of over 20 Cuban movies, short stories and documentaries, some of them already classic pieces of the Cuban cinematography.
Among this movies are Historias de la Revolución (1960), by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea; Lucía (1968) by Humberto Solás; Fresa and Chocolate (1993) by Gutiérrez Alea and Juan Carlos Tabío, or Ciclón (1963) by Santiago Álvarez.
The second secretary of the Cuban office in Bonn, Yuniel Gonzales Gomez, made the opening speech and expressed that the festival is among the activities to celebrate the 50 anniversary of the triumph of the revolution.
This edition is also dedicated to the Cuban cinematographic industry and pays tribute to the recently diseased Cuban prestigious director and founder of the Cuban cinema Humbetrto Solas.
At the same time Klaus-Peter Roth, director of the Filmforum Hoechst Centre indicated that the Cuban cinema has shown perseverance and talent with its own voice, only possible thanks to the cultural policy of the revolutionary Cuba.
