The Cuban scientists were granted the award for research into and the copyright of a new molecule they developed as a growing immune-stimulant for aquatic organisms, especially fishes and crustaceans.
The award, granted every two years, acknowledges the most outstanding scientific contributions in the field of marine biotechnology.
The head of the Animal Biotechnology Department of the CIGB, Mario Pablo Estrada, told JR that the study was carried out over the last five years to help contribute to the national food industry by improving aquaculture techniques.
“Once the research phase is over, this product will be used in fishes and crustaceans to boost their resistance to diseases and increase their growth rate,” said Estrada.
Among the scientists that worked in the team that received the award are Juana María Lugo, Yamila Carpio Reynold Morales, Alina Rodríguez, Antonio Morales, Osmany González, Jannel Acosta, Fidel Herrera, Vladimir Besada and Aniel Sánchez.
