World premiers by the outstanding Cuban companies National Ballet of Cuba and Spanish Ballet of Cuba, including a premier in Cuba by DanzaAbierta, are among the main attractions of the 21st Festival of La Huella de España that is being held during these days in the capital of the Island.
The Spanish Ballet of Cuba will perform for the public of Havana the world premier Sevilla and the time, inspired by the collection Sevilla of the Cuban artist Servando Cabrera in the 85 anniversary of his birth. MalSon is the proposal by DanzAbierta, under the choreographer and Spanish ballerina Susana Pons.
The 21st Festival of La Huella de España, an event created to promote the artistic exchange between the two nations, has a notable presence of Cuban groups and artists, such as the music and dance company Ars Longa, Sine Nomine, Habana Compás, Ecos, the outstanding declaimer Luis Carbonell and the Cuban singer-songwriter Liuva María Hevia.
The Seventh Art is represented in the cultural event by the Spanish Cinema Festival, which includes classic movies from the Iberian country such as Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios by Pedro Almodóvar and Los Tarantos starred by the legendary ballet dancers Antonio Gades and Carmen Amaya.
Of the 14 films, out of which 6 are a premier, the Festival includes the most recent productions of the famous directors Vicente Aranda (Canciones de amor en Lolita`s Club) and Julio Medem (Caótica Ana). The highlight will be the famous movie Mataharis, the lattest feature movie by the filmmaker Icíar Bollaín, premiered in 2007 and winner of 7 Goya Awards.
La Huella de España Festival was born in Cuba by the initiative of the Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso and the then Consul General of Spain in Cuba, Mr. D. Juan José Santos Aguado. It was first held on February 14, 1988 and several Cuban and Spanish institutions participated.
