One of the chosen pieces is a danzon, that will be presented on stage by Cuban and foreign students, from companies selected for their artistic rigour, such as the Ballet School of the Paris Opera, the Ballet school of the Milan Scala and the Hamburg Ballet School.
Another delegation from the Cuban teaching centre has just arrived from South Africa, where they offered three functions at the Artscape Opera House, a hall with 1200 places. Their presentations were reported in the local press with very favourable terms.
At the same time, Cuban teachers gave classes, workshops and conferences at the Cape Town University, the Dance School, the Cape Town City Ballet and the Cape Academy for Stage Arts.
In Pretoria, the Cuban delegation had an Exchange with the Ballet and Dance Academy, directed by Dirk Badenhorst, promoter of the project and was presented at the university that is celebrating this year its hundred anniversary.
The program included two Cuban ballets Mojito criollo and Zapateo por derecho, with music by Antonio María Romeu.
Its is the first time a Cuban ballet delegation is presented in South Africa and it could be the start of a particularly fruitful exchange from dance.
