11th International Scientific Conference on Gender, Family and Society began in Cuba

Participants in the event, organized by the University of Camagüey, are focusing mainly on the topic of women and the problems they face in today society. This biannual conference is being attended by scholars from various higher education centers in Cuba, including schools of medical sciences, publishing houses and other institutions.
Zulendris Kindelan, a specialist on Family and Civil Law and a legal adviser of the Havana-based National Center for Sexual Education (CENESEX), highlighted the importance of this kind of events as it represents an opportunity to discuss and reflect on topics such as gender and family.
Kindelan told ACN that this theme has become a highly topical subject as CENESEX is currently working on the strengthening of family values based on respect for sexual diversity, that is, the acceptance by society of all individuals regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity.
Meanwhile, Spanish Minerva Donals, with the Complutense University of Madrid, said that her country has become a recipient of immigrants since the 1990s. Her presentation in this conference will tackle this issue as it has a significant impact on social structures. In this regard, she said that foreign women half of them being Latin Americans - account for four percent of the natality rate in Spain.
