The upcoming performance of the British company at Havana´s Gran Teatro and Karl Mark theaters next July is already a highly expected event in the Cuban capital.
Mason explained that ballet members are very encouraged by the prominence of Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso, the great Cuban dancers and ballerinas and their admiration for the fact that since the creation of the National Ballet of Cuba the education of the public has been made a priority.
The director of the Royal Ballet recalled that she had read a lot about the work of the Cuban company and the high reputation of Alicia Alonso. “I have seen many Cuban dancers and ballerinas in London and we all hope that Cubans like the performance of our company and its repertoire.”
British critic Arnold Haskell discovered the Cuban Ballet School for the world some 45 years ago. In that respect Monica Margaret Mason said that Haskell was the director of the Royal Ballet when she was still a student.
