Cuba received a total of 10 gold medals during the awards ceremony of the 27th edition of Havana’s International Trade Fair (FIHAV 2009)Due to the quality of its products, the Fair was attended by nearly 1,230 companies from 54 nations.

The ceremony was presided over by Commander of the Revolution, Vice President of the Council of Ministers and also Communications Minister, Ramiro Valdés; in addition to Basic Industry Minister Yadira García, the two of them members of the Politburo of the Cuban Communist Party.

Top prizes went to Chorizos Bravos (VELA); HAP-200 Coral Hydroxi-apathy, an ocular implant by Dalmer Laboratories S.A.; Nestle Nut Sensation Ice cream, by Coralac S.A.; and the Active tension base for textile washing (TETRASURF) and the Calyx Scent moisturizing cream, the two of them from Suchel S.A.

Also receiving prizes were the Gely low-calorie jelly, from Coracán S.A.; the Havana Club Special Aged Rum; the 15 year aged Arecha Rum, from the Enterprise of Drinks and Beverages in western Pinar del Río province; the GECASEL-T accelerating
super-plasticizer additive for concrete, from the Construction Business Group; and Cometal Elevators.

Products from Germany, Brazil, China, Spain, Holland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Mexico, the Republic of Korea and Russia were also awarded gold medals for their quality.Vice President of the Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas and Minister for Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca also attended the awards ceremony, held at the Havana-based International Convention Center.

President of the Organizing Committee of the event Abraham Maciques, announced that the present edition gathered over 3,000 exhibitors, which shows the interest of foreign business executives toward the Cuban market, and their confidence in the island to overcome the negative impact of the world economic crisis.

FIHAV 2009 ended Saturday, November 7, at the Cuban capital’s Expocuba exhibition ground.
