Mr. Omar Morales, the Cuban ambassador in Guatemala, recalled that Cuban doctors, nurses and other experts arrived in this nation in 1998 to take care of the Guatemalan people after the devastation caused by hurricane Mitch.
He particularly praised the participation of the Cuban health personnel in the Miracle free eye care program for low-income people promoted by Cuba and Venezuela in Latin America and the Caribbean.
A fourth ophthalmological hospital will be inaugurated on MOnday, in the municipality of Villa Nueva, near the Guatemalan capital, which will complete nationwide eye care for the Guatemalan people.
