The Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition in Sri Lanka has decided to immediately import a vaccine called ‘Novel A/H1N1 2009,’ which has been approved by the World Health Organisation, to treat patients.

Nearly 258 cases of the new Influenza disease have been reported from many parts of the island. SO far, five deaths have been reported. The Health Ministry believes that there could be many more persons infected with the viral disease throughout the country. Meanwhile, the Ministry has decided to utilise two varieties of bacteria imported from Cuba to treat the diseases leptros pyrosis and dengue.

The Cuban Ambassador in Sri Lanka who met the Minister of Health recently has requested to use the BTI Bacteria to confront the mosquitoes spreading the Dengue disease and the biorat bacteria to control leptros pyrosis.
