Cuban chess player Leinier Domínguez had a tie in his match before Italian Fabiano Caruana in the second round of the World Cup, being held in the Russian city of Khanty-Mansiysk.

In the first game of the 64-player phase, number one in Latin America played with black pieces. Tomorrow with the white he will go for a victory that allows him to go to the next stage of the tournament.

For Domínguez that was his sixth tie in the competition, after five agreed in the first round with Australian David Smerdon, who offered a tough resistance before being eliminated.

The other Latin American participants who continue in competition, Brazilian Gilberto Milos and Venezuelan Eduardo Iturrizaga, also divided the point on Tuesday.

Milos tied with the black against Russian Nikita Vitiugov, while Iturrizaga divided the point with whites before Georgian Baadur Jobava.

The big surprises of the day were the losses of Russians Meter Svidler and Alexander Morozevich, Ucranian Vassily Ivanchuk and Teimour Radjabov from Azerbaidzhan, all by the hands of lower-class rivals.
