Rodriguez, who’s currently heading the critical edition of the book Jose Marti: Obras Completas (Marti’s complete works) —sixteen volumes have already been printed—said in statements to Granma newspaper that the award really belonged to Marti.
He is also a renowned intellectual of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, who has devoted his professional life to studying the 19th century Cuban patriotic movement, Marti’s legacy, the Cuban war of independence hero Maximo Gomez’s life and work, Cuban
economic strategies and US-Cuba relations.
In addition, he has written many books, like Antología del pensamiento revolucionario cubano (Anthology of the Cuban Revolutionary Thinking); the 1995 UNEAC Essay Award winner La primera invasion (The First Invasion) — Union Publications, 1987—; the 2003 Book Critics Award winner De las dos Americas (The Two Americas); and El periodismo como mision (Journalism as a Mission in Life) which is a compilation of studies about Marti’s life as a journalist.
