The initiative is targeted to safeguard the ecosystems and values like flowers, fauna, geological, geo-morphological and historical-cultural according to the note from the National Centre of Protected Areas spread by the Cuban News Agency (ACN).
The specialist of the institution Augusto de Jesus Martinez also expressed that the condition of Natural Reserve was granted to Las Peladas and El Mulo in the western province of Pinar del Rio.
The condition of National Park was awarded to Cienaga de Zapata in Matanzas, Los Caimanes (Villa Clara) and La Mensura-Pilotos (Holguin).
Honoured with the category of Ecological Reserve was Limones-Tuabaquey (Camaguey), Mogotes de Jumagua (Villa Clara) and El Salon (Pinar del Rio) with the category of Fauna Refuge was for Ojo de Agua (Las Tunas) and The Protected Natural Landscape was granted to Gran Piedra (Santiago de Cuba.
Cuba has six Biosphere Reserves declared by the program of The Man and the Biosphere from the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture and the same quantity of damps of international relevance.
