The Havana office of the Cuban Union of Writers and Artists (UNEAC) granted its 2009 Honour Award to plastics artist Vicente Hernandez in recognition of his lifework.

The young artist, from the coastal town of Batabano, has worked as a professor in several schools and has received several prizes for his work.

His paintings have been exhibited not only in Cuba but also in Latin America, Europe and the United States.
 
Hernandez is leading a cultural community project for the painting of murals that started by the end of 2008 to mark the 50th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution.

The artists involved in the project have already painted 11 murals in the same number of municipalities in Havana.
